The brief in this case was to have children in their school uniforms doing fun activities. I proposed that the children could be interacting with current characters from video games and cartoons and that the world would look like the inside of a video game. This was meant to be painted during the summer holiday and be a surprise for the autumn term.
As it turned out the weather was so bad in August 2005 that the mural was still being painted when the children returned to school, which was a really good thing as they had a direct hand in choosing the characters depicted.
‘Can I have a fairy castle?’
‘With a dragon?’
‘No problem, do you mind if it floats in the sky?
‘No, I’d like that. Can it be pink?’
‘Pink is great!’
