Modern Saints

Pelé the Saint

What does sainthood mean to someone who sits outside of religious doctrine? For me it is anyone who shows their fellow humans how brilliant it is possible to be. Sport is one very visible way of demonstrating genius and few were as great as Pelé in his heyday. For this reason he is the first I chose to paint.

There are many others in the pipeline such as Albert Einstein for his obvious genius, Noam Chomsky for his clear thinking, Muhammad Ali for his boxing genius and his selfless political stance, Princess Diana for her compassion and her campaign against landmines. There are so many more.

At present I am trying to get the permissions and funding to paint a giant mural portrait of Nelson Mandela as a saint.
